The Art of Healing

When I think of Art I think of creativity, imagination, an unleashing, liberating, a new sense of focus, a determination, a journey, an experience, another world, another way of speaking, another part of you, you are now getting to meet, a necessary sacrifice just because

When I think of Healing I think of maturity with a child’s heart, I think of the roots that are deep in the soil of a growing tree, I think about all the smiles from the women and men in my family, I think about Sankofa, to move forward you must gather and understand what was left behind, I think of the words I love you and sorry, I think of the ancestors who forgot to say those words and wonder if we will do the same or actually do something different, and this time we choose choice B, I think of letting go and how hard and useful it is all at the same time, I think about this universe, I think about Mother Earth and how she does not hesitate on doing self care, I think about you and I think about me.

As a sound practitioner I am invested in being a guide that helps you to release emotional, physical, and spiritual tension. We can discover different ways to release through meditation, mindfulness, breathing exercises, the use of instruments, journaling, and vocal toning.

During the pandemic, I've been doing regular guided meditations from recordings, but Naa's class was the first time I've meditated with others. Usually, I prefer to turn my Zoom camera off whenever I'm not speaking, but this class felt like such a safe space that I was completely comfortable closing my eyes, listening to Naa and breathing with the camera still on. (It was nice that we had the option to turn it off though.)
At first I was worried about how intimate the group was — only two other students — but I found that it worked perfectly. We each had plenty of time to share and also felt safe being vulnerable with each other. Over just four sessions, I felt like I got to know my classmates, and enjoyed hearing their experiences.
I also appreciated Naa's guidance both in giving writing prompts, and also in assuring us there were no wrong answers. I was surprised by what I uncovered while writing about topics I hadn't thought were relevant to my work in progress.

Thanks again, Naa, for leading this course that helped me connect mindfulness with my writing practice. I hope to attend another course of yours in the future.

I absolutely loved this class and looked forward to it each week. Naa gave us really interesting writing prompts that took me to deep and unexpected places. Naa makes a safe classroom space which allowed for intimate and meaningful conversations.Because of Naa’s thoughtful leadership, the class very quickly grew into a supportive and safe community. I highly recommend this class!

I couldn’t recommend these classes enough. Everything coming from Naa Akua is medicine, y’all! I’ve taken a past course on writing with the four agreements by Don Miguel with Naa. The course was filled with so much realness, laughter, community, and love. Naa’s wise and encouraging guidance supported me to see my potential as I became more confident in sharing my heart work and words. I loved the rhythm of the classes: we took some time to dive into the meanings of some words, share and expand on definitions before diving into the learning and practice of new writing techniques and formats. Give yourself this gift! Naa’s writing classes are food for the soul.
